Though people don’t fear surgeries, they mostly fear staying at the hospital because of the risk of cross-infections, unfamiliar environments, etc. That’s why Michigan Neurology Associates & Pain Consultants has an established outpatient surgery center to facilitate surgeries and non-invasive procedures that don’t require hospitalization. We are open on all weekdays (from Monday to Friday) to serve patients across the Metro Detroit area in Clinton Township, St. Clair Shores, MI, with all their ambulatory surgery needs.

What Is an Outpatient Surgery Center?

What Is an Outpatient Surgery Center?

An outpatient surgery center (also known as an ambulatory surgery center) is a specialized facility, either located outside or within a hospital setting. Various simple yet less invasive procedures that don’t require patients to stay back at the hospital for recovery are performed here. So, you don’t need to pack your bag for a day or two, as you can recover at your home post-surgery.

Procedures Offered at Our Outpatient Surgery Center

Not all procedures can be performed at the outpatient surgery center, as some procedures may require overnight observation or ongoing medical care. Generally, minimally invasive procedures and same-day surgeries are performed at our outpatient surgery center, which include:

  • Epidural Steroid Injection
An epidural steroid injection helps to reduce pain in the arms, back, legs, and neck. During the procedure, we will inject corticosteroid and local anesthesia into the epidural space of your spinal cord. This procedure needs to be performed at an outpatient surgery center, as it requires a special X-ray to see the proper placement of the needle in your spinal cord in real-time.
  • Stem Cell and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Stem cell therapy involves harvesting stem cells from your bone marrow to be used as your treatment in the future. Stem cells are the blank cells in your body that can transform into specialized cells, which promote healing when injected into damaged or diseased tissue.
PRP is your own blood product containing a concentrated source of platelets, specialized proteins, and growth factors. It helps to expedite the healing of diseased tissues when injected into your skin. This procedure is performed at the outpatient surgery center to ensure the accuracy of the injection.
Besides these, we may also perform various spinal procedures at our outpatient surgery center.

What to Expect After Outpatient Surgery?

Post-surgery, you will be shifted to the recovery room for observation and anesthesia to wear off. The length of your observation time depends on your surgery type and associated complications. If you don’t develop any adverse reactions throughout your observation period, we will accelerate your discharge formalities and explain post-surgery care. We will give you prescriptions that include medications and their dosages that you need to follow throughout your recovery.

It is normal to feel tired and discomfort following your surgery, so avoid strenuous activities for some days. With plenty of rest and medications, you will feel good over the next few days. You must visit us at the next scheduled follow-up for a review, and in the meanwhile, you can contact us for any questions you may have concerning your symptoms or post-surgery care. Visit us immediately if you have intense pain, fever, or discharge from your surgery site.

How to Know If You Require Outpatient Surgery?

Our surgery specialists will determine your eligibility for outpatient surgery by evaluating your surgical needs, age, existing chronic diseases, and tolerance for anesthesia (as some patients may develop adverse reactions to anesthesia).
